ANNOTATION: In a house with many mysteries, every key has a lock, and every lock a door. Those that pass through the doors are instantly transformed. But one door holds a relentless creature that won’t rest until freed.

SUMMARY: After the brutal murder of their father, siblings Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode move with their family to Lovecraft, Massachusetts to live in the family estate, “Keyhouse.” Bode, the youngest child immediately discovers the fascinating powers of the doors to transform those who pass through but nobody believes his stories of falling dead when he walks through the door, existing invisibly (outside his body) as a ghost, and returning to the door to become alive again. As Bode continues to experiment with the ghost door, he discovers a creature in the well house but, appearing to be a girl, this creature is deceptive and dangerous and won’t quit until freed.

EVALUATION: 5 - Excellent illustrations add to the horror and general dark atmosphere of the book while also giving understanding of the plot. While certain scenarios are left vague, it leaves the rest to the reader’s dark imagination to fully realize the plot’s true horror.

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION: This is the first in a comic series currently 4 books long. Joe Hill is the penname of Joseph Hillstrom King, the son of renowned horror writer, Stephen King.
