MORE THAN HUMAN by Theodore Sturgeon
Sturgeon, T. (1999). More than human. New York: Vintage Books.
GENRE: Science Fiction
ANNOTATION: Six extraordinary people work together to achieve a more sophisticated consciousness referred to as “homo gestalt,” the next step in human evolution.
SUMMARY: They may seem like an odd group: just an idiot boy, a runaway girl, a baby, and severely brain damaged twin girls with a vocabulary of only two words between them. However, “the idiot” is a telepath, the runaway has a telekinetic gift, the “mongoloid” baby has amazing thinking powers, and the twins are able to teleport. When they combine their abilities, or “blesh,” together they achieve a greater consciousness.
EVALUATION: 1 - Though weird and difficult to follow, this book brings interesting ideas on consciousness and humanity.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION: This book was first published in 1953.
